I’m participating in an elective course called ‘Contemporary media work practices’ in my second semester in postgraduate program. I feel that this course will help me develop technical skills as well as media planning skills to support me in my major – advertising. Our task is making a project and I and other teammates create a project called ‘The little warrior’. It is an educational program. The reason why we want to make a program like this because unlike western children, children in Asian are carefully-covered by their parents. Most of children do nothing except playing and going to school, leading to the fact that they don’t know much general knowledge about surrounding life. In Vietnam, there is a reality show called ‘I have grown up’ which is originated from a Japanese TV Hajimete no Otsukai of Nippon Television show (Japaninfo 2017) and it is noticeable by public because it proves that children do not need to be protective too much. Adults should encourage children to freely explore the world around and should only provide the necessary knowledge to ensure the safety for children.

My responsibility in the project is being charged of content and information related to the life skills for the webpage as well as posts in our chosen media platforms (Facebook and Youtube). This is the first time I participate in a technology-related course and it is also the first time I really make a website. Therefore, there were some problems during making the group proposal. It took me a lot of time when first making the group website. I spent so much time on structure of the website and its decoration. Thus, I made an initial website and my teammates take responsibility to do next steps and later I would post information about the concept, the pitch. I feel that I could do better if I have to create a new website next time as I gradually get familiar with making a website during this project.

What excites me when doing this project is that I can make new friends actually. We are all from Asian countries and therefore we were easily to get into an agreement about what genre and topic we want to do. In fact, the moments when we were thinking about the idea and recording the pitch video were really fascinating and interesting.

What I have learned from this project is actually from my teammate – Bao, the director of our project, he was so optimistic and was the person inspiring us the topic of the project. He was calm in solving problems occur while making the website. He also has his own website so I can learn experiences in creating websites from him.

I think that what we did well is the spirit of solidarity and cooperation during the project. Every one respected opinions of others and tried to make an efficient group project. What we did not do well is we did not manage time reasonably to catch up the deadline.

The information from the project is what we get from the fact in our country and some Asian countries. To support this idea, we did research how this issue looks like in Australia and we found out that Australian children actually do not have chances to join in life skills, they just have martial arts as school electives. As a consequence, I wished to research much more information about this issue in more countries to investigate how parents think about life skills, whether it is useful to them and their kids or not, what skills they would like to let their children study.
